Key Reproductive Health Issues in Women


Women are prone to different health problems. They experience more health concerns due to menstrual troubles or problems related to the reproductive health systems. Depressions and women issues in menses require rigorous analysis.


Menstrual Problems




Also known as Dysmenorrhea, it is related to severe pain around and during periods. The pain can be debilitating, whereas, in some instances, it’s accompanied by

  • fainting
  • diarrhea
  • and even constipation

Continuous low backache is a congestive Dysmenorrhea while cramping constricting pain is spasmodic Dysmenorrhea.


Menstrual cycles


Menstrual cycles vary from 23 to 35 days. It’s regular when periods occur at normal intervals. Large gaps or no periods, spotting and continuous bleeding for few weeks when menstruation occurs warrant a check up by the medical practitioner. Through this, you can know if you have other complications such as poly cystic ovary syndrome.




Menorrhagia refers to excessive flow during menstruation. The average amount of blood lost is approximate to 35 ml during the entire period. The quickest way to measure the excessive flow of blood is when you need to change your pad or tampon more frequently in a day.




When the absence of periods goes for more than 6 months without a natural cause then it’s diagnosed as Amenorrhoea. In addition, missed periods occur towards menopause or at the start. Drugs too can cause missed periods. Ensure you consult a physician since Amenorrhea increases the risk of osteoporosis.


Premenstrual symptoms (PMS)


PMS describes the emotional and physical body symptoms that occur after ovulation. The symptoms are absent during menses. There’s an enormous list of the symptoms nearly over 140 that create confusion in its diagnosis. Tender breasts, depression, mood swings, food cravings, headaches, weight gain, constipation and bloating are some of the common symptoms.




Fibroids are non-cancerous growths in or on the uterus. They’re also called myomas. They vary in size from the size of a pea to the size of a 7-month-old fetus. Myomas are classified differently depending on where they grow. They can be classified as submucosal, intramural, pedunculated and sub serous fibroids. These are the primary cause of heavy periods as well as intense pain in other cases.




Endometrosis is a painful disorder where the lining of the endometrium grows outside womb. The tissues develop in the Fallopian tubes, pelvis, ovaries, bowels or the bladder. The endometrium bleeds during menses since it’s sensitive to hormonal changes. Since there’s not an outlet, it causes cysts inflammation, scars, etc. Endometriosis can result in painful periods as well as painful sex.




Hysterectomy is a surgical operation to remove the uterus. The procedure is rarely performed except when saving lives. The most popular being heavy periods. Also, it may be suggested in cases of endometriosis, prolapse, Fibroids, cancer or pelvic inflammatory diseases.


Various factors cause infertility or inability to conceive from a medical point of view. Ovulatory failure, endometriosis, Damage to the Fallopian tube and other factors cause infertility. Also, Lifestyle factors, emotional elements, and nutrition deficiencies may cause infertility.


Though hair loss is minimal in women, other problems like Anorexia Symptoms, Ovarian Cancer Symptoms, and Seasonal Effective Disorders do occur in some instances. Identification and appropriate medication of these reproductive health concerns lead to much healthier life.
