What is Frova® (Frovatriptan Succinate) Medication?
General Information
Frova® is the trade name of a prescription drug containing Frovatriptan as the active component.
Frovatriptan is a found in a class of drugs called triptans and is used in the treatment of migraine attacks without or with aura. It is not use or intended for use in prophylactic treatment of migraines or management of basilar migraine or hemiplegic. The safe use of Frova in cluster headaches mostly present in older male populations has not been established. Frova is manufactured by Endo Pharmaceuticals, Frova is available in pack size of 7 tablets. The tablets are white, round, film coated, debossed with the letters “E” on one side and “2.5” on the other side.
Active Ingredient
Frovatriptan like most triptans has specific affinity for 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D (chemical in the brain), Frovatriptan prevents dilatation of blood vessels (cranial) in the brain and thus impacts on the redistribution of blood flow, leading to reduced blood flow in extra cerebral and increased cerebral blood flow in cranial vessels, hence prevent excessive dilatation in migraines.
